Rise

 

They say we have become

soft over the centuries,

that we are no longer

knights and warriors,

 

but I know people for whom merely

getting out of morning's bed is heroic,

for the day itself is the dragon which

opposes them and the urge

to give up is the giant

who must be daily slain.

Maybe it isn't a softening but a shift in focus.

Our knights and warriors faught and sacrificed for a cause - a greater good. Something outside of themselves.

Over the years, we have been conditioned to focus inside ourselves - every man for himself. So now, we are knights and warriors for our own self survival.

Of course, there are people who just go through life under constant attack, and it seems that it is through no fault of their own. I know these people, too.
